Oakhill Secure Training Centre - 2011
Oakhill STC in Milton Keynes accommodates boys aged 12 to 17 years. G4S run the facility and already provide a strong, educationally focused custodial programme.
Fiona Williams - Director, and the Education Team at Oakhill were all very keen to deploy the New Horizon Programme for a selection of their boys who were three months away from being released back into their communities.
The basic 8 week programme enabled the participants to identify their existing strengths, learning styles and values, and to select new life skills to learn in preparation for their return to society.
The boys were encouraged to select relevant themes (money, relationships, conflict...etc) that were of particular interest to them and to create their own scenarios that would enable them to practice applying new perspectives, new attitudes and practice establishing new behaviours within a context that each found to be really engaging.
